Triptorelin (GNRH) 100mcg
Firstly, Triptorelin is a gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist, an antineoplastic agent and a contraceptive drug that is a potent inhibitor of the synthesis of testosterone (in men) and estrogen (in women). Triptorelin sells under the brand names Decapeptyl, Diphereline and Gonapeptyl. Also, in the United States, it’s sells by Watson as Trelstar.
How Triptorelin (GNRH) works:
Possessing greater potency than endogenous LHRH (luteinizing hormone releasing hormone), Triptorelin reversibly represses gonadotropin secretion. For example, after chronic, continuous administration, this agent effects sustained decreases in LH and FSH production and testicular and ovarian steroidogenesis. Serum testosterone concentrations may fall to levels typically observed in surgically castrated men.
In addition, Triptorelin and other GnRH agonists cause an initial surge of gonadotropin release, but then lead to down-regulation of their synthesis and secretion which results in a decline in testosterone and estrogen production.
- treatment of hormone-responsive cancers such as prostate cancer or breast cancer
- precocious puberty treatment
- treatment in estrogen-dependent conditions such as andometriosis or uterine fibroids, and in assisted reproduction
