The Scientific name for Matrixyl that is Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 (formerly Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-3) Matrixyl 3000 which is made from a combination of Palmitoyl Tripeptide-7 and Palmitoyl-Oligopeptide. It is a trademark of Sederma, a cosmetic ingredient development firm. It was established using a series of anti-wrinkle actives that comprise Matrikine, a peptide that aids the proper functioning of many components of the skin’s structure.

Matrixyl is a range of active ingredients that mirror the natural process of skin regeneration. It stimulates the lower layers of the skin to heal themselves, by producing cells known as fibroblasts, which accelerates wound healing. This is important, since the aging process causes these fibroblasts to lose their abililty to produce adequate collagen. Matrixyl stimulates the “matrix” layers in the skin — primarily collagen and fibronectin. When stimulated, the skin produces more collagen. Loss of collagen is what leads to thinning skin and the wrinkling of newly inelastic skin. Matrixyl helps to counteract this natural part of the aging process.
